WHAT IS CLOGGING?

Clogging is a rhythmic, fast-paced, high energy style of dance.  Clogging originated as an American Folk Dance as immigrants from Scotland, Germany, Ireland, and England settled in the Appalachian mountain region.  As they shared their cultures and dancing, clogging was born.  Today, cloggers dance to almost any kind of music with a fast tempo - pop, country, bluegrass, Irish, cajun, rock, and Top 40.

 WHO ARE THE DIXIE CLOGGERS?

In 1978, Mary Walker brought clogging to Louisiana and formed the group known as the Dixie Cloggers, and it still flourishes today as the oldest and largest clogging group in the New Orleans area.

Members of the Dixie Cloggers range in age from elementary school students to senior citizens. Currently, we have about 60 members in our club, and about 20 members on our performing team. Many of our club members choose not to perform and come to class simply for fun and exercise.

The Dixie Cloggers typically do several performances each month. Performances are for various groups, including fairs, festivals, charity benefits, and other community events, as well as places like the Ronald McDonald House, nursing homes, hospitals, etc. Our performances include a variety of music enjoyed by people of all ages.
